The 1841 census and 1851 census show that John was born in about 1806 in "Foreign Parts", while Charlotte was born in about 1809 in Stepney. In 1841, John and Charlotte were living in Lamb Row, Bethnal Green, and in Montague Street, Spitalfields in 1851.

John and Charlotte had the following children:

• Harriet Ann Meyer born about 1833 in Stepney. In 3q1859 (East London, 1c, 54) Harriet married Edward Stanton Root. In 1861 Harriet was a witness on her sister Rebecca's marriage certificate. The 1881 census shows that Edward and Harriet had the following children:
  • Harriet May Root born 1q1865 (Poplar, 1c, 684)
  • Frederick Root born 3q1867 (Poplar, 1c, 634)
  • Alexander James Root born 2q1871 (Poplar, 1c, 628)
  • Jane Elizabeth Root born 2q1873 (Poplar, 1c, 656)
  • Charlotte Hannah Root born 1q1876 (Sculcoates, 9d, 164)
  
  Harriet died 2q1884 (Stepney, 1c, 308) aged 50.

• John Meyer born about 1836 in Stepney

• Rebecca Meyer, christened 17th July 1838 at Spitalfields Christ Church, Stepney - the same church she married in 23 years later.

  The 1861 census shows Rebecca as a 22-year-old, single, weaveress.

• Sarah Meyer born about 18?? in Spitalfields

John was a labourer, as shown on his daughter Rebecca's birth certificate and marriage certificate.
