In 1902 John married Lilian Ficken at the Leytonstone parish church. Jane, Lilian's elder sister, was a witness on the marriage certificate. It's worth noting that on her marriage certificate, Lilian's name is recorded as "Henrietta Lilian Ficken", perhaps after her father Henry (Heinrich).

The following year, John and Lilian moved to 43 Knighton Rd; Cann Hall, Leyton (right by Wanstead Flats) where their son Leslie was born. Later, John and Lilian lived at Burdett Rd; Plaistow (don't know when), then moved to Belgrave Rd in Wanstead in the 1920s

In the 1901 census John is described as a Pawnbroker's assistant, but the following year on his marriage certificate he was a photographer.

In 1903, after being married for less than 8 months, Leslie was born. Leslie was actually one of twins, but only Leslie survived. John and Lilian had no further children

In the Great War, John probably served in 11 Squadron of the Royal Flying Corps as an observer. During this time he took a number of photographs, which can be seen here

John died 9th April 1930. After his death, Lillian is reputed to have fell in love with a Russian dentist. Her son Leslie did not approve so Lillian didn't remarry

To her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, Lillian was known as "Nana Cook".

John and Lilian lived at Burdett Rd; Plaistow (don't know when), then moved to Belgrave Rd in Wanstead in the 1920s, where Lilian lived until very late in life
