In 1848 Alexander married Mary Kemp at Hanover Square. His occupation was bookseller (master). Alexander and Mary had the following children:
Alexander probably died in 3q1881 aged 32 years (district: Greenwich, vol: 1d, page 561)
In a taped conversation with Dennis Carney in 196x, Teresa remembers Alexander's family: "Edward McVicar had brothers and sisters. Brothers died, sisters lived."
The 1851 census shows Alexander and Mary living in Acre Lane in Brixton, where they lived since about 1850 onwards.
The 1861 census (image) shows Alexander and Mary living in 4 George Place, Rose Lane in Brixton.
Alexander probably died 1q1863 (Lambeth, 1d, 292) aged about 54.
The 1871 census (image) shows Mary as the head of the household living in Amersham Grove, Deptford, with her family.
Mary died 24th May 1871.
