In 1880 John married Rose Smith at St John the Baptist Church, Islington, the same church where Rose was christened in 1855. At the time of the marriage, John and Rose lived at 137 Balls Pond Road. John's occupation was leather cutter and warehouseman at Carters (same firm as his son Ernest)
John and Rose had 12 children of whom 8 survived childbirth:

In the 1901 census Jessie was an 8-year old living with Emma Walker, a widow living at 301 Fulham Road, Kensington. Mrs Walker was a close family friend. In the 1881 census Mrs Walker was living at 137 Balls Pond Rd, the same address as John and Rose when they married a year earlier.
John Carney.
John Carney died in 1906. He came home one Friday evening not feeling well. By Sunday he had died from influenza and pneumonia. John is buried in Manor Park cemetary, grave no. 611, square 41

After John died, Rose had a life of poverty and had to go out to work despite having 8 children to look after. Daisy (George Carney's wife) remembers s daughter Minne bringing Ernest around to her house to warm up.
